ReplayTV PC Edition – Anything special?
Digital Trends posted a story with regards to the relatively new ReplayTV PC Edition software. In it, they have statements from ReplayTV including one in which they state that they will redefine the whole PVR / DVR market. From what I have read, the only real new features that this software has over say Windows MCE or SageTV is some of the searches you can perform.
For example, you can search for shows or movies based on the genres or the actors in it. There is also a ‘Surprise Me’ feature that automatically records a show based on the users favorites.
Right now ReplayTV PC Edition is available for Windows XP. There is also a 30 day trial available. If you opt for the full version, it will set you back $99.95 USD up front and then an additional $19.95 a year for programming. Although $19.95 a year is still a lot cheaper than the cost of renting a PVR through a cable company, it seems like such a shame when other PVR / DVR / HTPC software can get programming updates for free (GB-PVR, MythTV, etc).
