You can also upgrade a TiVo yourself with tools freely downloadable online, but not everyone is comfortable with that. I've done some myself using the downloadable tools, but more recently I used PTVUpgrade.com's 'Instant Cake' CD on an old TiVo S2 because it was just easier.
