PVR / DVR / TiVo – We have it all

ABC offers free online shows

ABCI have been quite busy these past few days so I am only catching up now. Some of this news might be a day or two old.

ABC has followed the lead of some of the other major broadcasting networks and has launched online versions of their shows. These shows will only appear after their original air date on cable TV, but once they are up there you can watch them as often as you want for free. The shows currently offered include hits like Lost and Alias. Of note is the fact that this is currently only available to residents of the United States. People like me who live outside of the USA will still have to make sure to program our PVRs / DVRs so that we don’t miss our shows.

One curiosity that this does raise is ABC’s relationship to Apple. Currently Apple iTunes is selling downloadable episodes of Lost for $1.99 an episode. The main difference I suppose is that the current ABC offering shows videos in a flash format which means that you can’t download and save them. Meanwhile with iTunes when you buy it, you can watch whenever you want and even transfer it to your iPod.
